    1. Chris, this from the "Personal-Nachrichten des Heeresabwickelungsamts Bayern für das Jahr 1919" (Edition 30 of 16 June 1919 with effect 30 May 1919) gazetting Felix Pienßel's Patent of promotion to Leutnant der Reserve as of 13 March 1917. Regards Glenn
    2. Jon, I don't immediately recognise him and without any indication of place, an undecorated field officer wearing an Überrock is almost hopeless. Regards Glenn
    3. Andreas, another Dr. Metz but not the St. Goarshausen medical officer. Stabsarzt d.L. Dr. Metz of Landwehr-Regiment Nr. 87 (Nassau/Oberlahnstein) then Landwehr-Bezirk Oberlahnstein died on 13 January 1891. Regards Glenn
    4. The Vogg in 19. Infanterie-Regiment was Kurt. He was killed in action as a Fähnrich and Offizier-Stellvertreter on 11 September 1914. Born 16 March 1893 and killed at Champenoux just East of Nancy. Regards Glenn
    5. The Garde-Kürassier Oberst is Günther Victor Fürst zu Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Regards Glenn
    6. David, I do not have a Stammliste entry for him but can tell you he was commissioned into the Königs-Infanterie-Regiment Nr, 145; Leutnant (20.3.99 E). After attending the Kriegsakademie in 1910-1912 he was transferred to the Kadettenkorps as an Oberleutnant although at the outbreak of the war was serving as an Hauptmann (1.10.13 A29a) as the Platzmajor in Wesel. I have nothing on him as regards his wartime service in WW1. Regards Glenn
    7. Heiko, why do you not think this is a Garde du Corps uniform? It is that or the Garde-Kürassier-Regiment. Another possibility is Sekonde-Lieutenant v. Kramsta of the Garde-Kürassier-Regiment. Regards Glenn
    8. Heiko, Premier-Lieutenant/Hauptmann Ulrich v. Witzendorff. Flügel-Adjutant to the Grand-Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin around 1875. Formerly a Premier-Lieutenant in FAR 24 and ultimately the commandant of Breslau and char. Generalleutnant. Regards Glenn
    9. Major Fritz Knopff, company commander in 1937 and later commander of Pion.-Bat. 37. Regards Glenn
    10. Chris, it very much depends on whether you are solely interested in the uniforms of WW1. If that is the case, the Kraus books will probably meet all your needs. The three volume work by Knötel, Pietsch and Collas is superb for the peacetime uniforms of 1914. should you need information on the pre-war development, Pietsch's two volume work "Die Formations Und Uniformierungs-Geschichte Des Preubischen Heeres 1808 - 1914" is excellent. I know you are particularly interested in the Bavarian army, so "Die feldgraue Friedens- und Kriegsbekleidung der Königlich Bayerischen Armee" 1916 by Helm and Strobel is extremely useful. Regards Glenn
    11. Hi Andreas, I recognize the Armeedenkzeichen in the middle of the bar. I am referring to the 1st medal. I have another suspect if the medal is the 49. Regards Glenn
    12. Hi Andreas, Do you think that might be a Denkzeichen für das Jahr1849? Regards Glenn
    13. He was granted permission to wear the Double Dragoon per Order of 12 December 1894 as published in the Marine-Verordnungsblatt. He had been serving as the First Officer of the Gunboat SMS Iltis on the East Asian Station. He was the Artillery officer of SMS Brandenburg during the Boxer Rebellion and as such received the Chinadenkmünze für Kämpfer. Regards Glenn
    14. Hi Glenn, you do not stay unknown with a rack like that! Char. Generalleutnant Hermann v. Gerhardt (1831-1909), commanding 57. Infanterie-Brigade at the time of retirement in 1888. Regards Glenn
    15. Some more names for you. The medical officer standing next to the captain is Marine-Oberstabsarzt Dr. Johannes Krause. The officer at the far right is the first officer, Korvetten-Kapitän Wilhelm Bruns. Both are wearing the commander's cross of the Belgian Order of Leopold II. The officer at the far left is the navigating officer, Kapitänleutnant Emil Heusinger von Waldegg. He wears a knight's cross of the Belgian Crown Order. Strangely, his other decoration is not listed. Regards Glenn
    16. The Kapitän zur See in the middle is not Franz Hipper but Theodor Frey. The "Chinese" officer is Prince Mahidol of Siam. The photo dates from 1912. Regards Glenn
    17. Andreas, I would say yes. He was a Major/Oberstlieutenant in Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 10 in Hannover in 1877-78. Regards Glenn
    18. Andreas, I believe you have him. Musikdirigent August Schmidt of Grenadier-Regiment 12 was a veteran of 1866 and 1870/71 and received the Ottoman Medschidie Order 5th class in 1900. Regards Glenn
    19. Andreas, I don't think there was a Musikdirektor of that name. He is wearing the pattern of uniform in use from 1898 to 1908. Are there any further clues on the card: location, date etc? can you provide an enlarged image of the Pickelhaube plate? Regards Glenn
    20. Your Württemberg Rechnungsrat is Oberzahlmeister Joseph Heckmann of Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 126. Here is an earlier portrait from the Landesarchiv in Stuttgart. Regards Glenn
