    1. Hi: As an update (I've been away all week)-I do have the Hamburg rolls on CD and from what I can tell they were formatted on a Windows 95 (!) device. My better half can fix this easily. Also, I believe the Bremen rolls have arrived and are awaiting me at the post office, but I will have to go see. In the meantime however, I have started a new "project" that will keep me very, very busy at least through next June and -God willing through next Hovember and perhaps until Jan. 09. Until then, I doubt I'll even crack these things. I must confess, my interest in Derg era Ethiopia is where I am spending my time these days. By the way-what exactly IS that man in Stogies' old Mecklenburg /White Falcon picture? Some sort of NASDAP/SA/Luftwaffe private-rank hybrid? I assume it is a 1934/35 picture by the SA cap eagle?
    2. Have you tried the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C.? Also, have you tried the Belgian Red Cross?
    3. By the way, I think this is rude. There is a language factor here, so 'Collectingchris' I think probably did not intend to be rude and I for one, would give him the benefit of the doubt....but this is a forum for GENTLEFOLK, and I am certain that the moderators, the sorts of people who once made me stand at attention for 2 hours straight (with a pack and wool beret on) in the pouring-down, winter rain at Colchester, will not allow rudeness here. This is a most informative thread and I am grateful for it. Robert E. Lee, a great man who fought for a bad cause, once said: "A gentleman never intentionally causes another any offense". It's good advice in the anonymous world of cyberspace and keeps many different sorts of people on a friendly footing.
    4. Wow!! You d' Man! Dave-that is awesome. Does the series go throughout the war and (he hoped) to 1920s? Are they NYC loaned? The fact that these are out there gives one hope !
    5. There's this guy in Missouri.... AAG I think. He's good-very good, but very expensive. Also, FJP auctions on eBay are trustworthy . What you looking for?
    6. A most interesting thread and useful thread. It has been well known that BMVK3s have been upgraded for @20 years or so now. Sidney Vernon noted as much in 1994 as did ORDEN before that. I did not know about the "buckle flaw" though. Given the extremely low numbers of these that were awarded I have always wondered about the scores of them that I have seen about. There certainly seems to be a marked quality difference. I would love to know the name of the chap who is "remaking" these. When is the book due out? Who is the publisher?
    7. that's a pretty neat bit of research there-how'd you find his award date etc?
    8. Hi Humberto! Welcome back! There are photos of some naughty officers wearing the banned V corps badge too. There is only one book in English out there on these awards-the VERY old Verkuilen Ager book. However, there are more in German. Can you help us with some translations in the Cuban medals section?
    9. ribbon looks ok-how stiff is it? Whats' the weight and dimensions? Is it magnetic? Does it rattle a bit within the frame (3 piece?). What marks? What does it smell like? The inner core I also think has been repainted-although not a few collectors have done that as "repair work" if the core had rusted or flaked.
    10. WOW!!!! Show us more! Even better-proof positive of specific awards with specific dates! Any Kivalo badges?
    11. This isn't the Frank Pais medal is it? He and Che hated each other-apparently over a girl (who presently lives in Boston, Mass).
    12. There is some ambiguity here-the Nuremberg laws apparently banned awards to Jews as of their promulgation.
    13. I disagree-after Fidel goes, I give it no more than a couple of years before it implodes. It'll go in a weekend-buoyed by inevitable political liberalizations and the prospect of US style wealth in the offing. Everyone dreams of living like their cousins in Miami. I'd bet money on it.
    14. I think you have the Menelaik coronation medal (without ribbon). The rest are a good -indeed great selection of British made WW2 medals-the last one is sweet indeed.
    15. One book is Greg Copley's "Ethiopia Lifts her Hands To God". Available directly from him in Washington D.C.. It's a bit long winded though on "geopolitical symbols..blah,blah...".
    16. WOW!!!!!!!! That is the best of the LOT! Have you read his memoirs of the 1812 campaign? Haunting passages-especially of Napoleon pacing, worried and angry, through the Kremlin as he read about Sweden's disasters 100 years before-as the smoky ashes of Moscow were floating through the open windows.....
    17. There were also 200-250 or so Cubans in Afghanistan with the Soviet troops. Also, both served in Nicaragua...and her "borderlands".
