    1. Looking at the medals' order-it appears the austrian medals are recognized as 'german'-which perhaps means post Anschluss, but pre long service medals issue. Makes you wonder who wore it without a long service medal-SA/ SA reserve/ party official/ DRK?
    2. Really nice bar-to a man who fought in at least one tough battle and probably saw a lot of combat in france. I'd bet he ended up as an NCO and had a schnalle too.
    3. It is the Hessian "war honour decoration": see Dave Danners' most excellent site: http://home.att.net/~david.danner/militaria/hessen.htm
    4. I believe he also sells them on ebay. He is my source for replacement austrian trifolds.
    5. Fantastic! Any chance the Partisan assn. records are still around? Or that the Assn. stille xists?
    6. Nice photo. See him (I think) also on ebay being sold with a BB & Co. star by joanem2816 out of Blaine, Washingtoon. Hatless, that photo shows him in Wilhelmshafen around 1917. http://coins-decorations.com/images/800-999/807/3.jpg picture into the void:
    7. I LOVE the idea. Also, it enhances bars' historical value as there is provenance provided.
    8. Not complete-but has lists for some of the awards, esp. 1919-35 ( a few private awards to "female singers" and tradespeople. Also some statutes.
    9. I think #2 is fine. i have photos of berlin police who later went into the Wehrmacht who had this medal combination. #1...I do not know-but Rick will.
    10. Try also: Max Hans' "Die Orden und Ehrenzeichen von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld und Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha: 1689-1935". (1986), Coburg Copy shop.
    11. 2nd one: My beloved war comrade Mr. Lt. Otto Rost, in fond rememberance, etc. etc. Hauptman von Frobel. date I am glad you got them. First one says basically the same thing.
    12. Nice ones. I think some are made in France and Switzerland and 'extras' are sold on the open market.
    13. Alas, I don't have the book- I was outbid. But Jeff Floyd (get better soon jeff!) will have a copy. I am willing to bet Glenn or somebody else has a copy though. Sorry.
    14. You -you @#!X!% I can not take any more drama-what with Chris Boonzairs most excellent Adventure/ Ek mystery document-and Xmas coming on. My heart just can't this suspense.
    15. I don't know, but there is a 300 odd page book that's a world wide bibliography of medal books out there. Floyd Johnson et al. just sold it. I'll go dig out the reference. Found it: Bibliography of Orders and Decorations by Mulder and Alec Purvis (nice bloke), 321 pp. 1999. softbound
    16. come again? What exactly is #3? The Lion issued medals?
    17. Not even a small fire? So I need about 16 medals in all? Plus documents? Are they common to find at all?
    18. Welcome Dr. Jones (I always think of Aqua when i hear that)! Which was your Marine unit? Pity you missed Chris b.-he's on a plane to Cambodia over the Arabian desert at the mo- but he actually knew quite well a vet. officer of the Handschar. he has good stories. Do a search and you'll find some stuff.
