    1. Your observation is correct. I am afraid that only the person who can explain this is the one who assembled it. An obvious explanation, in cases like this, would be that the proper ribbon was not available; but we know that this is not the case because, if I am not mistaken, the iron cross is mounted on that proper ribbon. So, I guess that we will never know. Best wishes, Wild Card
    2. Greetings Andreas! The number on Feldwebel Hermann Stude’s Georgskreuz is 29841. Thanks for asking, I am surprised that no one asked sooner. Best wishes, Wild Card
    3. Japan X, Congratulations and thank you for an astounding example of research. Wild Card
    4. Gentlemen, If I may. This is so hard to believe, I hesitate asking. With regard to post #45 (General’s ribbon bar), is it my aging eyes or is his collar tab on backwards! A general? really? If it is correct, I apologize for taking your time. Regards, Wild Card
    5. Gentlemen, In the event that the image associated with post ID8, above, no longer comes through on your computer, here it is. Best wishes, Wild Card 0.1000304.tif
    6. Also, here is a chain of minis to a high ranking Prussian officer who, among other things, was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class during the war of 1870-71... and in the middle of it all, we have...
    7. Gentlemen, Some really beautiful bars shown here. Thank you all for sharing. Here is my candidate. The awards to Feldwebel Hermann Stude of the 4th Guards Grenadier Regt. -
    8. Chris Boonzaier, Thank you for raising an important point. I do believe, though, that the value of rarity has slowly become more appreciated among Imperial collectors in recent years. Related to this is the ability to often identify to whom a medal bar was awarded; which opens the door to enhancing it’s significance. Also, in some cases - for instance the Hannover and Braunschweig Waterloo and Baden Carl Friedrich Military Merit Order medals - the medals are actually named to the recipient, again enhancing it’s significance. Thank you again for raising this important point. Wild Card
    9. Greetings ixhs, Back to your Henry the Lion knight 2nd class for a moment. If it is of any help, your badge is pre Jürgens which means that it was produced prior to the change of order jeweler/supplier from Siebrecht in April of 1912. It could, of course, be a recycled piece; but personally I feel that this unlikely. Regards, Wild Card
    10. #1 But then, Rich, you know my weird way of thinking. Best wishes, Wild Card
    11. Claudio, Without a doubt, this is one of, if not the most beautiful ribbon bars I’ve ever seen. As they say, “Variety is the spice of life!” Congratulations and best wishes, Wild Card
    12. No problem. Here is the GMVK case on the left, with a larger version on the right.
    13. Hi Streptile, That's good enough for me. Incidentally, did you know that the style of case that I posted came in larger sizes for other awards? Good to hear from you, Wild Card
    14. Possibly there were other types, or versions, I can't say for sure, but I am inclined to doubt it.
    15. Now for the best part - the reverse. Yes, the crown, cypher and date are engraved through the black enamel to the underlying silver body. Not painted over the enamel. I hope that you like this example of the true artwork of minis.
