    2. Looks considerably more intellegent than his master. Paul
    3. Well that's a turn up for the books, never thought it would sell. Paul
    4. what a nice group. There was a second class set at Morton and Eden 60 lot 324 so they do turn up from time to time. Paul
    5. Antonio, A most useful work on Spanish manufacturors of ODM. Have you a list of the Cuban manufacturers who are seen from time to time on 19th Century Spanish Orders? Paul
    6. Alex, it looks like toning to me, I have seen silver go a goldy colour almost as if it is gilt. As far as I can see there does not appear to be anything wrong with it and as one of the more beautiful orders of the 20th century probably close to a £1,000, certainly high hundreds. PAul
    7. This I found on another website "The only "Palaeologos" claimant I have heard of is Mr Henri Vigo Paleologo, a former hairdresser from Genoa, a confidence trickster who sells titles and orders to gullible Americans and Japanese." Could this be the origin of the piece. Paul
    8. Never seen it before the crown looks nothing like the Serb Crowns on the Orders Paul
    9. As was remarked about Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe, two stunning pairs. Paul
    10. You only have to look at the biography of Baron von Ompteda (commander 5th Line battalion) who died at Waterloo at La Haye Sainte after being ordered to make a suicidal counter attack by that numbskull the Prince of Orange to see the reckless bravery of the KGL. Paul
    11. Recent rare VM purchase (also very expensive). Victory Medal (71 Dfdr. Balwant Singh. Holkar’s Mtd. Esct.) The Holkar was the ruler of the princely state of Indore. Paul
    12. Bill, You may well by right, another possibility it that many of the Indian Victory medals were purchased en-mass from Indian scrap dealers, there are tales, certainly before the export laws in India toughened up of them being purchased by dealers for a fraction over the scrap by the hundred weight, same is the case with Memorial plaques and Stars. The BWMs were always a bit more pricey as they ended up with the silver dealers (if only I could get a time machine and go to India in the 1960s the treasures that were available) Paul
    13. Very nice indeed. What would be probably even rarer is to find a KGL medal where the name on the roll is identical to that on the medal. PAul
    14. I would have thought with a group such as this there is a resonable possibilty of attribution. The value would be considerably more if it could be attributed than if not and obviously the attribution would make a lot of difference (if for example it was an air ace then it could be quite a bit). As is I would have thought $500 or so. Paul
    15. Unless you have a good reason for believing the recipient to have received a Serbian decoration it could just a easily be a DSO ribbon used to represent the Italian Military Order of Savoy (and actually nearer to that than the White Eagle). Paul
    16. No the triumph of hope over expectation. Paul

Your knowledge of scripture is impressive (nearly as good as Stalins, if he had entered the priesthood what would the world be like). As an ex theological student it is nice to here scripture quoted as it has disappeared largely from day to day English. I was at Newcastle University and our faculty motto was "Newcastle University Divinity Department, living proof the Devil can quote Scripture." But to quote our Lord I must depart "I Thirst." Paul

    19. Radmilo, Thanks for reminding me of that thread. I wonder if this thread should be attached to it? Paul

The Russian Nick's nose suggest heavy consumption of industrial strength vodka. Paul
