There must have been a whopping lot of luck involved to bring down any plane with a.45. That round has a trajectory like a hog jumping a fence. Once it hits something that is a different story. A 230 grain bullet going 820 fps, it disipates all of it's energy when it hits. That's why we like them so much. byf
I have a contact in Russia. He says it very very hard to find much if any WWII Soviet gear such as helmets or telogreikas or fur hats. I think medals are easier to get because a lot of them found there way west. byf
Very nice Helms. The first Helm I got was KM. It had the name Hoeffer on the rim, and 2 shrapnel holes, one through the decal and one an inch behind it. Poor old Hoeffer. I can't remember where it went. byf
Wow, where did you guys find this boat? In the book I have it was" bombed and sunk" in the Kattegat on 5/5/45. How was it found? How did you get it back to England? Keep up the good work. byf
Greetings Lads, I am happy to be on this Forum. This is my first post. Has anyone read the book THE RED KNIGHT OF GERMANY by Floyd Gibbons-1927? It is an outstanding read. It has translations of all his combat reports and letters home to Mamma. It is a great book. It covers his start as an Uhlan in the east, boar hunting, learning to fly, crashes, and his stellar but brief time in the air. Check it out. byf
