Gordon Williamson Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Interesting. I have never heard of the Petz & Lorenz firm associated with KM badges before. There is an early U-Boat badge in Buntmetall with exactly the same fittings.
Jan Arne S Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Hi Gordon !Here is a link to a 1914 EK 1 from P&L that have the same pinupset . http://www.samlarforum.nu/viewtopic.php?t=12460Jan Arne
Gordon Williamson Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 Hi Jan Arne,Yes, definitely the same fittings. What was the confirmation that the EK was by Petz & Lorenz. ? I know the same fittings can be found on KVK1 and Spanish Crosses, also Sports Badges. I think the Sports Badges can be found with the P&L maker mark, but not any of the others. If the Sports Badge association is being used to identify these we have to be careful. Remember the "Wernstein" badges were identified this way because of the Wernstein Sports Badge fittings, and turned out to be from Wiedmann in the end !
karaokedido Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Hello allI am a new user on this forum so I apologise if I am posting this in the wrong place. I have a Naval Destroyer Badge by Schwerin - my Uncle was an avid collector of such items and these items have come into my posession since his death. This particular item I believe to be authentic and would like to get it valued. It has Berlin 68 on the back. I live in the UK and would like to be able to go to a medal specialist and have a valuation with the view to selling it to a collector.I would appreciate the help everyone. I have got photo but not too good as my camera is crap!!!ThanksK
Paul C Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 There is a Kriegsmarine section on this forum. You are best off doing some nice digital pictures and posting them here for opinions and valuation.
Gordon Williamson Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 One of the rarer of the Destroyer War Badges just docked after its trip across the North Sea from Hamburg.Superb condition and the first time I have come across an unmarked example as they almost invariably carry the S&L "4" on the pin.
nesredep Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Hello!GordonCongrats,beautiful badge.Never seen this before.All the best Nesredep
Martin W Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) Aha,so your the one that got that badge.Very nice Gordon, and very rare. The few examples i have seen of this badge have the "4" stamped on the pin. This is the first unmarked example i have seen and it is in very fine condition too.Congratulations,Martin. Gordon Williamson Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Sorry Eric, but this is a bad one. JFS Destroyer badges had a ball hinge with needle pin. Here's a real one.
Eric Stahlhut Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Sorry Eric, but this is a bad one. JFS Destroyer badges had a ball hinge with needle pin. Here's a real one.no worries, gordon! thank you very much for responding so quickly and for confirming my suspicion!
Martin W Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Hi Eric, after looking at this one i am inclined to agree with Gordon about the hinge. However,i am now wondering if it could be a good badge with a replaced hinge?Regards,Martin. Edited September 25, 2008 by mwestley
Martin W Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) This photo arrived today. When i viewed it on line,i figured a nice photo of the Destroyer badge in wear,so i purchased it.After close inpsection on arrival i was surprised to find that the badge is of the embroidered type.I know these badges were produced. After going through my references,i have to admit that i think this is the first photograph i have seen of the emroidered Destroyer badge in wear.Regards,Martin. Gordon Williamson Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 Great find Martin ! One of the best photos I've seen this year and very, very rare..
Martin W Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Thanks Gordon,i couldn't beleive my luck when i first viewed this photo with my eyeglass.I rate this photo along with the one of "Luth" wearing the embriodered U-Boat badge.Regards,Martin.
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I used to be really into this badge... have never seen a cloth one being worn.Great find!
Guest Rick Research Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 And ANOTHER oddity is that he is wearing a single ribbon bar (EK2?) in 15mm width-- which was not authorized. Normal singles were 25mm wide. THAT is quite weird and wonderful enough to merit inclusion in the eventual Final Online Ribbon Bars Article, with your permission. We all see what interests us most! :cheeky:
nesredep Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Hello!Congrats with your rare Photo find. All the bestNesredep
