If anyone have names, documents or similar on Germans who got Finnish awards from 1918

I would be most grateful to see them.

I´m trying to do a list over as many as possible awardees with liberty Crosses and medals from 1918.

I still miss a lot so all help is appreciated

    Dear Christer

Such a list would be very useful. :)

Please add the following WW2 officer:

    Kapitän zur See Julius Steinbach

-Order of the Cross of Liberty 3rd Class, 1918

-Commemorative Medal of the War of Liberation 1918

I have some other ribbon bars with these decorations but they are not named.

    Kind regards

    Hi guys,

interesting topic - because my area of interest.

Here is another name (you can find more information on German wikipedia):

    Hans-Karl Freiherr von Esebeck

He got the the Cross of Liberty 2nd class + Medal of War of Liberation, both of course 1918.

Later this evening, I will post a great Imperial medal bar...maybe another name will be soon revealed.

    Have a good day

Mikko-- do YOU own that bar?

Yes, we know whose it was-- a national treasure for Finland (silver Medal of Liberty WITH BOW...) BUT it has been for sale so many times on BOTH sides of the Atlantic Ocean in recent years it would be nice to know somebody with enough intelligence to KEEP it as the awesome SOUL of a 1918 Finnish collection is going to KEEP it and not toss it out on the market... again.

Research Gnomes (one of us had this bar in his paw at an S.O.S. show, where the ignorant seller wanted too much. Yes there IS a sanity level) only do research for brother COLLECTORS... not to put unearned money in the hands of lazy seller.

Has this bar FINALLY found a HOME with you?

    Hi Rick,

I bought this bar this year in February for my collection which consists of WW1 and WW2 medal and ribbon bars of Germans fighting in Finland. My own international background "put" me into that business...I collect and do not sell until my wife kicks me out...I do not think that this will happen :)

So, would you like to whisper the name into my ear or give all persons interested in this topic the opportunity to participate in the revelation of another brave man's name.

    Cheers

    Mikko

    Hi Daniel,

I don't think it is anything to be disappointed about. Just gazing at the first several awards on his medal bar and I knew he didn't perform an act of single, outstanding bravery. But that doesn't take anything away from the bar. It's a great officer with pre-war, wartime and after the war service with a couple of countries.

 that windmill around his neck.

    That is strange :o

There was only 1 awarded Finnish 1st Class medal Order of Liberty with bow

and that was to Mannerheim .....

    Have I missed something

    Hi,

    Very interresting topic.

I have this nice unknown ribbon bar and I think it will be difficult to make a positive id without other States ribbons. I like it anyway
