Nicolas7507
Dear members, I would like to collect any information about Hugo Meurer, especially his awards. Was he awarded the OK2 and the MMV? I also heard, that his medal bar is still existing. A photo of it would be great! Reason is this ribbon bar, which I could luckily acquire a few days ago. It came to me identified and I can confirm every award for Meurer except the OK2 and the MMV. All the Best, Nicolas Edited September 18, 2019 by Nicolas7507
P.F.
Is that the OFA1 he is wearing here with the EK1? It's hard to tell.
Daniel Krause
@FAR32, It should not. Marcus did list whatever was published in the Marineverordnungsblatt. If an award was too late awarded to be published anymore, it is not in. From my experience, most of the awards to navy guys after mid1918 were not gazetted anymore. @Nicolas, Nice find! Glückwunsch! You were a bit faster than me ? His Mecklenburg cross is confirmed. It is listed in the Schwerin archive. viele Grüße Daniel

Hello Nicolas. How did you confirm the China-Denkmünze for Meurer? And what class is it? Bronze or Stahl? On 18/09/2019 at 22:06, Daniel Krause said: His Mecklenburg cross is confirmed. Here is a little better quality photo on which you can see the OFA1 in the bottom left corner.

It´s the 1st class medal of the order of Liberty (Vapaudenmitali) and the last one is the commemorative medal from the liberation war (Vapaussodan muistomitali). The 1st class cross is the variant with brilliants, I believe only two such pieces was awarded in 1918.
Deutschritter
JohanH, looking at the large ribbon bar, I would love to know, why exactly Meurer received the Südwestafrika-Denkmünze (Stahl?) ...? Thanks! And yes, only Meurer and von der Goltz received the "Brillanten" to their liberty cross.

Deutschritter
Thank you, Gentlemen. I think GreyC is right, he was Admiralstabsoffizier from 1902 until 1907 and surely organized some transports. This is what I have now for Meurer, additions and corrections welcome: Zentenarmedaille, 1897 Roter Adlerorden, IV. Klasse Preußische Rettungsmedaille am Bande Krone zum Roten Adlerorden IV. Deutschritter
Thank you! Once again, you have a good eye! I got this from Wikipedia (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Meurer) ... I know, a terrible source -- they write: Marinekabinett (Hrsg.): Rangliste der Kaiserlich Deutschen Marine für das Jahr 1918. E.S. Mittler & Sohn, Berlin 1918, S. 7 -- so now I have looked myself (Rangliste 1918, p. 7), and NO BMV3mKr⚔ ...!!! Do you have anything on his cousin Vizeadmiral Alexander Albert August Meurer? Thanks! Kriegsmarine Admiral
For Hugo Meurer I also have China-Denkmünze in Bronze based on the ribbon bar posted by Nicolas in the first post. The class (Bronze) is just a guess. Since Nicolas hasn't replied to my question how he was able to confirm this medal for Meurer, I don't know if he actually received it. If we are to believe the medal bar posted by Johan is really Meurer's, then he didn't receive the China-Denkmünze, only the Südwestafrika-Denkmünze. Therefore, I am going to delete the China-Denkmünze from his list. Regarding Alexander Meurer, here is what I have: -Königlich Preußischer Roter Adler-Orden II. Klasse mit Eichenlaub (18. 01. 1914) -Königlich Preußischer Kronen-Orden II. Klasse (16. 01. 1910) -Eisernes Kreuz (1914) I. Klasse -Eisernes Kreuz (1914) II. Klasse -Königlich Preußische Kaiser Wilhelm-Centenarmedaille 1897 -China-Denkmünze in Bronze -Südwestafrika-Denkmünze in Stahl -Kaiserlich Russische China-Denkmünze 1900-1901 in Bronze -Königlich Preußischer Roter Adler-Orden III. Klasse mit der Schleife -Königlich Preußischer Roter Adler-Orden IV. Klasse -Königlich Preußisches Dienstauszeichnungskreuz -Ritterkreuz I. Klasse des Königlich Württembergischen Friedrichs-Ordens -Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz -Großherzoglich Oldenburgisches Friedrich August-Kreuz II. Klasse -Kommandeurkreuz II. Klasse des Königlich Dänischen Dannebrog-Ordens -Offizierskreuz des Königlichen Ordens der Krone von Italien -Ritterkreuz I. Klasse des Königlich Norwegischen Ordens des heiligen Olaf -Kaiserlich Russischer St. Stanislaus-Orden II. Klasse -k.u.k. Österreichischer Orden der Eisernen Krone II. Klasse mit der Kriegsdekoration -Kaiserlich Türkischer Eiserner Halbmond -Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer And here are some photos of his medals I found. I pressume these are from the International Maritimes Museum in Hamburg. Just one little note, he most certainly didn't receive the Kriegsdenkmünze für die Feldzüge 1870–71. He was born in 1862! Deutschritter
How great, thank you so much! About the China-Denkmünze: Deutscher Ordens-Almanach does not have it for Hugo.
Nicolas7507
Sorry for the late reply. Hugo Meurer did not receive the China-Denkmünze but the Südwestafrika-Denkmünze. It is a period mistake on the ribbon bar. Regarding the Rangliste 1918, it does not show foreign orders and furthermore it is not complete (Stand 14.02.1918). There were still 9 months to go until the war ended and many decorations were awarded in this time.
