    1. I actually have only one piece to the intel Corps.. its this jacket.... http://www.kaiserscross.com/286801/286927.html
    2. Hi Micha, What do you think of the thought that the initials on crosses could simply have been for control.... and that full or no names (or simply 800) may be for retail... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/57129-the-makers-marks/ Best Chris
    3. Hi, I think Trevor and Micha are both right up there when it comes to 1914 EK experts... and I think they each have their own Classification system. best Chris
    4. I found this little gem on Ebay.... the ribbon is quite wide if i had found a length i would have assumed for Austrian mounting... As you can see, it clips over and it could be clipped around a ribbon bar or something.... is it some kind of Austrian mounting system for wearing a ribbon?
    5. How long does it take you to do one of those?!?!?!?!?!?!!
    6. Ooooppss... you did a funny streak on his cheek!! ;-) Fantastic!
    7. Wow... there are some scarce/rare ones in amongst that lot!!! Very nice indeed!
    8. Hi, I love the little penciled Company details on such docs. I assume when the stack of docs arrived at Regt HQ some clerk noted which company they should go to... I have a few docs like this, not only bavarian...
    9. I thought a Medic thread would be good... Here an EK doc to a Stretcher bearer in the Feld Lazarett 369
    10. Oooohh... I love that! My wifes great gerandfather was the Divisional dr for ther 6th LW Field division... he always had his aid posts as close to the line as possible and was chuffed when he got the EK2 and 1 clasp while the Drs in the neighbouring divisions gor KVK2 and 1.
    11. Thats fantastic! I have an interesting document somewhere, it was the original vorschlag that went up top the brigade with the approval for one guys award, and turning down another guys... the guy whose award was approved was in the Stab, and kept the vorschlag... quite unique... I must dig it out...
    12. P.S. there are a number of Guess lists doing the rounds, matching Company names to initials.... Does anyone have any to post? Or links?
    13. Indeed... but that would likely mean, when it came to selling grandfathers group, his award flatback would probably be there.. more likely than his domed wearing one....
    14. I still have a bit of a problem drawing boundries here.... Issue ones are easiest... apparently pinned flatbacks, (Mostly with makers initial?) no probleme here Private Purchase, It is said that domed crosses are private purchase.... ok, but how do we recognise a flatback private purchase (How often did people buy flatback private purchase crosses?) Lets say firm XX and YY were making private purchase crosses in 1916.... and still in 1930... there is nothing to say their 1930 crosses will be any different than their 1916 crosses, either in material or quality.... so how do we differentiate between war time private purchase and a post war crosses... How many crosses are 100% identifyable as Post war... as opposed to private purchase? Can we say most post war crosses are of lesser quality? Why would they be? The same fine firms were making them.... what would make them drop in quality between the wars? So, can we say, Non Issue fall into 1) Private purchase, both wartime and postwar where it is not sure when they were made and 2) A handfull of positively identifiable post war... LDO- We look down on LDO 1914 crosses, but they are technically as official as a WW1 Issue cross if gotten through official channels? Any thoughts to issue, post war , private purchase etc?
    15. Here is some brainstorming questions from a doc collector for the cross collectors.... Why makers marks? Surely not free advertising, I bet no soldier could ever do anything with the fact his EK had a ring stamp "G". A man going into a tailor would also not have a choice between crosses of different ring stamps... Am I right in thinking that these would have been a control, that the dept responsible would have had a list of official makers with initials and arriving crosses quality could be controlled, the ring stamp identifying from where they came? I really dont see any point if a ring stamp or initial on the back. I dont see a soldier looking at a "G" and saying "Oooohhh... i like them Godet crosses!" There must have been SOME sort of quality control and with hundreds of thousands of crosses from different makers... there must have been some form of identification.... When crosses started coming back with pins that fell off, or loops that seperated, they would have needed a "Fr" or "KO" to see where the crppy crosses were coming from... Now, a FULL "Godet"... THAT seems like advertising, free market, buy from a jeweller advertising.... Then... if the Dept wanted a control number to control the quality.... what is with the unmarked crosses? am I right in thinking most unmarked EK1s are domed crosses, ergo thought of as private purchase? Maybe, most domed have either nothing or 800... so crosses made for private sale did not really bother with initials? Most flat crosses have a makers initials? ergo pointing towards Control and issue? And of course... some really nice private purchase having the firms WHOLE name as advertising... Just some wild thoughts to get the ball rolling.... Maybe the Ordenskanzlei functioned like the LDO and did the controls, using initials, and not LDO numbers, ... IF this is the case, the master list decoding the initials may have been a handwritten list in a single office, lost for ever and ever... And we will go on playing guessing games for ever.... So... I throw those thoughts out there... then duck and run.....
