For most countries the embassy is for government country to country type work. A countries consulate handles affairs of it's citizens overseas. You might want to contact their consulate and see if they can/will help. Again, this varies from country to country. I suspect you may not get help from the consulate either as they would view it as a private matter or have privacy regulations that prohibit sharing of names etc.

Order of Glory 3rd class - help needed
Leaftree replied to hoh1851's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Looks like a well worn original to my eye. I do notice the line in the window which to me indicates a type 8 but the serial number should be a type 9 according to the Mondovor site. https://mondvor-narod-ru.translate.goog/OSlava3.htm?_x_tr_sl=ru&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US -

It's called the enshittification of the internet. They bury the most relevant search returns to keep you on longer viewing more advertisements- in this case with ebay the sponsored items. -
14th Rifle Division 1943
Leaftree replied to Droocoo's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Looks like they were on a stagnant front around Zapadnaya Litsa river in '43 if I'm reading it right. There isn't much out there in English on units so I do this: Google translate the unit name into Russian Copy/paste Russian name into Yandex Copy/paste yandex page into Goolge translate Here's a few links on the unit: https://dic.academic.ru/dic.nsf/ruwiki/575437 https://www.rkkawwii.ru/division/14sdf1 -

Who is Khrushchev's person?
Leaftree replied to 1812 Overture's topic in USSR: Soviet: Other Militaria
Just as he promoted the Virgin Lands Program as a solution to the grain problem, so Nikita Khrushchev touted the expansion of corn cultivation as a solution to the livestock problem. “There will be no communism if our country has as much metal and cement as you like but meat and grain are in short supply,” he remarked in early 1954. To increase the supply of meat, Khrushchev sought at every opportunity to popularize corn as a fodder crop. http://soviethistory.msu.edu/1961-2/corn-campaign/ -
There was a Russian movie about it a few year back, I wouldn't recommend watching it. Horribly done. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_9th_Company

Welcome to the forum! I don't believe there is a catch-all online source for serial numbers and dates awarded. These web sites can help you: https://sovietorders.com/our-services/database/ http://www.aukedevlieger.nl/index-phaleristics.htm I highly recommend the book 'Echos of War' by Paul J. Schmitt https://www.collectrussia.com/DISPITEM.HTM?ITEM=13774 as for badges you can use these dealers : https://sovietorders.com/badges/ https://www.collectrussia.com/showcat.htm?cat=ExcelBadge Regards,

Top military orders award cards
Leaftree replied to Mondvor's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Yes, I noticed his Kutusov isn't on his award card and that it has no serial number to it, a shame. I have his reissued ORB #62257 which I had researched years back and have been trying to find out more about him since. Here's a face to the name. -

Georgian Militia - 10th Anniversary
Leaftree replied to Chuck In Oregon's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
That is an eye pleasing award, colors are similar to the Red Banner of Labor. -
Interesting piece. The serial number would indicate a screw back award, but this looks to be a Type 3, option 7 if I'm not mistaken (there are several variations that look similar) http://mondvor.narod.ru/ORbnLab2.htm My guess is a replacement/duplicate award? the serial number engraving looks good to my eyes, but why add the '0's before the number 987? I can't comment on the award booklet, those are a minefield to me. I look forward to hearing other opinions on this!
