    1. interesting the fact he has the Khedive's star but not the Egypt medal would suggest he was at some time attached to the Egyptian Army but alas it is quite a common combination for them and it is very unlikely you would be able to narrow it down to one man. Paul
    2. I wouldn't want to be back wind of him on a hot day. Paul
    3. It books in the standard reference work at $12,000 in extremely fine condition. It appears to be a very nice example but much over £10,000 will be an exceptional price. Still I wouldn't mind finding something like that. Usually all UK metal detectors find is crotal bells and brooch pins. Paul
    4. As well as the RAF there was a small contingent of the 3-5 Maharatta Light Infantry present (about 20) who presumably were involved in guarding the airstrips, I am the fortunate owner of one to a Sepoy Maruit Patne Paul
    5. The Parliamentary Police were a permanent staff on duty in the House of commons, when the house was in session they could be supplemented by auxiliary or temporary police who received an extra shilling per day when seconded to parliamentary duties. Paul
    6. It is possible if a person inherited a dukedom between 1887 and 1897 that they would have been entitled to a silver 1887 and a gold 1897 by going through the peerage for those years it may be possible to identify the recipient of the group. Paul
    7. "It is regrettable that some fakes have managed to sneak into this auction as well" Forgive him Lord he knows not what he does. Paul
    8. Nick, Interesting, I have a friend in Flensburg who claims that some of the bronze-gilt early issues are actually Holstein-Gottorp pieces rather than Russian. I have only seen early gold and crystal pieces of Alexander Nevsky, so the large number of bronze/silver-gilt Anna pieces, and I am including pieces with long standing provenances including the ANS piece and several I handled in the 80's and 90's, are all privately made Paul
    9. Some originals Annas are in bronze-gilt and crystal. I am referring to the early pieces around Paul I's introduction in 1797, gold ones from that period should be treated with the utmost suspicion Paul
    10. Scarce but they do turn up and as they do not contain precious metal or stones much more scope for the faker. Paul
    11. Lambert this is very much a guess but the cross looks quite similar to the obverse Bavarian Cross for Military Medical Volunteers with the exception of the Crown, possibly a Weimar period piece. I suspect that the German buffs will call me a dickkopf. Paul
    12. You might get that for the second if someone really wants it, as to the other should be worth that easily. Seem live E-bay jobs to me. All the best, Paul
    13. Timo, The first medal is by George Webb and commemorates the unsuccessful attempt of Lord Brougham to secure the parliamentary seat of Westmorland at the General election of 1818, he came 3rd with 900 votes. He late represented Queen Caroline in 1820 during her trial for adultery an subsequently became lord chancellor, one recently sold for £60, the second medal by Johann Martin Holtzhey was issued to Commemorate Frederick the Great's victory at the battle of Prague in 1757, unfortunately the condition leaves a lot to be desire so therefore of little value. All the best, Paul
    14. Dear Slava alas honorary awards to foreigners were not published in the London Gazette, they maybe listed in Russian sources. Paul
    15. Nice the bottom medal appears to be either a Distinguished Conduct or a Military Medal (Only 2 DCMs and 7 MMs awarded to Russian during WWI) so a super rare set. Paul
    16. Football association of Ireland badge (I suspect the football refers to Gaelic football). Paul
    17. Unfortunately many of the people who buy these Russian related items would not be any the wiser if it was a piece of elephant's dung, the just buy it for the certificate, whether it is correct or not does not seem to bother them. Paul
    18. Lovely badge, the Order of Danilo I is one of my favourites. Paul
    19. Not true, you see IP on the reverse enamel of Imanuel Pannasch pieces from the 1830s. Paul
    20. Lot 213 in the November 2008 Russian sale, made £5,500 ($8,800). go to mortonandeden.com and follow auctions link. All the best, Paul
    21. I think E-$cam is open house for these sorts of operations. Paul
