Thanks Mike! Rarer than I thought! I bet that only a fraction of that remain today. Does anyone have a photograph of it being worn?

This is the first one I have ever seen! I have always wondered what these looked like. How many were awarded? I have a feeling that the price paid for this award is un-representative to it's overall rarity.

The Heer photo turned out great!! The shoulder board pips are supposed to be gold toned though!

I too love NC bars! They are my favorite. Although, I do not like the way this is put together. What do the specialists think? The reverse bothers me a bit.

The mystery shoulder boards on your Official look like those used by the LSW and SHD! I have never seen anything like it on a Heer uniform! I have placed a set of these boards below.. Rick, I have never seen that mixture of officer and NCO insignia before either. Perhaps he was a probationary member(the LW does something similar), who will be advanced to an officer grade after a certain amount of time has passed. To me, this is the only thing that will make any sense.

I am surprised that he saw all that action and did not receive a campaign medal.

Would the EMs have the blue in the litzen as well, for GFP?

Thanks for providing the link! There are a lot of great photos on there. Did the soldiers of the border guard get benefits with the fall of the DDR? I know that the Stassi vets dont currently get pensions or benefits.
