Luftschutz A little Luftschutz ribbon bar...
P.F. replied to IrishGunner's topic in Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Very nice original ribbon bar. Kind regards Pierce -
Hi David, Perhaps "The Complete Blue Max: A Chronological Record of the holders of the Pour le Mérite, 1740-1918" by Kevin Brazier? I read the one and only review on amazon.co.uk which states that the book deals mainly with airmen and no other branch, which is a little disappointing, though I believe some sort of a list of all recipients is attempted. Another is "German Knights of the Air 1914-1918" by Treadwell and Wood. This book deals solely with the airmen winners but I believe it gives biographical information as well as photos. Are there any books with information on all Pour le Mérite holders of WW1? Kind regards Pierce

Gentlemen, I recently purchased this medal and ribbon bar grouping. The grouping was sold with this very nice box. The box has the word/name "Kragen" embroidered into the lid. Does anyone know what sort of box this is? I was thinking perhaps a small hat box. It would be interesting to hear others' thoughts. Kind regards Pierce

Thank you both for your opinions. I had assumed the Saxon ribbon was for the Honour Cross given its position on the second ribbon bar i.e. before the 1934 Honour Cross. An interesting point Dave. There are silver swords on the Schwarzburg ribbon on the top ribbon bar but the bottom bar used gold swords for both the Schwarzburg ribbon and the Honour Cross- I guess that was just what was to hand at the time. Either NCO, EM or Officer, I am happy with these little additions to my collection. Kind regards Pierce

Dear Gentlemen, These two ribbon bars arrived here this week and I am very pleased with them. I do not have many ribbon bars with Schwarzburg ribbons. Do you think it is most likely that the Schwarzburg ribbon represents the Honour Cross or Medal? In your opinion, do you consider it uncommon to find a Saxon Honour Cross ribbon without swords? Kind regards Pierce

Gentlemen, This RAO 4. Kl. arrived with me this morning. I have taken a few photographs and would like to hear your opinion on it. I got a few opinions before buying it, all positive, and would now like to hear from all within the community. This is the first such cross I have owned with "glatte Arme". There are no maker marks and the cross came with a nice piece of original ribbon. Thank you Pierce
