CRBeery Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 I bought this at a local show today. I have never turned one of these up before. Is this ribbon the correct one for this medal? It seems to be the right age and a nice long piece!!! Another little group to hunt for. This medal seems pretty delicate for being struck from iron. Post them if you got 'em.
Stogieman Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Correct ribbon and quite the find....... only the fourth piece of original ribbon I've ever seen. Superb!
CRBeery Posted April 2, 2006 Author Posted April 2, 2006 Then I am am totally satisfied. This was hidden way in the bottom of a dealers case. I just saw enough of the medal sticking out to realize what it was. The ribbon was a nice surprise as I could not see it until it was dug out.
Stogieman Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Well, you have a rather astounding find. Only the third NC version of the Napoleonic series I have ever seen. These cmpaign medals were awarded in 1813, 1814, 1813-14, 1815 and 1813-15 !! Quite the variations to try and search for!
medalnet Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Very nice indeed. Do you guys have access to the old OMM magazines. I finally got number 98 including an article about those combatant medals. Dr. Sauerwald claims there, that those having the round arms where coined in Paris in 1814, which explains there is none 1815, while the others are coind in Berlin later. P.S.: Congrats to the ribbon. Those are extremely hard to find
Bob Hunter Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Nice find, Chet! It's nice to see things older than myself, once in awhile!
VtwinVince Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Great find. I'm looking for that exact medal, as I have images of my 3X great-grandfather wearing that ribbon in his buttonhole.
Gerd Becker Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Great find, Chet. I have only seen two or three ribbons for this medal, since i collect.
joe campbell Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 chet!great find.! a nice reward which is the kind of treasure that keeps one looking. andreas-is there somewhere to get a copy of that article.forgive my ignorance, i am not familiar with OMM.thanks!joe
medalnet Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Joe,it is the old Orden Militaria Magazin of the BDOS. I just got my copy from Helmut Weitze.

Ed_Haynes Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Rare and lovely medal, rarer and more lovely ribbon!
Paul R Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Best I can do...Awesome stuff!!! Are there any records available to reflect the numbers issued?
KeithB Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 The closest that I can come:Right war but the wrong German state.
Daniel Murphy Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Ralph, Very nice group. I believe these to be underappreciated and under valued by many, but they are catching up. A shame they were not named like some of the other states medals. Dan Murphy
Solomon Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Very nice medals I had one with a ribbon in my hand a few month ago, at a local collectors meeting from another forum. We discussed a quite interesting question:The "C" at the ring of these medals...what does is it stands for? Makers mark?Does anybody have an answer?GreetingsSolomon
