saxcob Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 ...unusual combination of the Friedrich-August-Medal of with the Austrian War Medal.
saschaw Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 ...unusual combination of the Friedrich-August-Medal of with the Austrian War Medal. Very unusual! Good you now show it here, too, after we discussed it yet on German SDA forum. Maybe someone here has an idea?! My best guesses were the following two: A born Saxon who went to war with Austria as a mercenary (totally not unusual in mid 19th century), or a native Austrian who later went to live in the kingdom of Saxony. Due to precence and bar style I don't think this would have been worn by a Austrian in Austria.
ccj Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 This would be my favorite, very nice and I LOVE the ribbon bar...and here is one of my favorites. The bar of Generalleutnant Johannes Zukertort.
saxcob Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 and here is one of my favorites. The bar of Generalleutnant Johannes Zukertort. ...the most fascinating part of the story is of course his ancestry: http://encyclopediaegypt.com/israel/f3000b.htm

Dete Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Hi, quite an interesting man. Here is a picture wearing all his glory. You can see it s exactly the same bar, at this time still with the swords on the AK. Regards Detlev
ccj Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I have never seen a 3rd Reich general wearing so many awards! Wow
Stogieman Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Interesting how many of these look familiar to me! Here's a blast from the past
Stogieman Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 This one was always one of my favorites. The solo cased SHM had a custom-made case to hold the bar

Komtur Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Wow.... He was commanding my wife's great grandfather (Lt. D. Res.) when he was wounded!!! So it may be of interest for you, that he had English roots: His grandfather was Hugh Halkett, his granduncle Colin Halkett.
