speedytop replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs
Hi, I think, that the seaplane is a Dornier Do 18, see e.g. the second picture in the row: http://evandrom.blogspot.de/2011/04/dornier-do-18-g-1d-2-172.html Uwe -
Kriegsmarine KM Log Book?
speedytop replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs
Hi Jock, it ia a diary with the name Logbuch. I think, that everybody could buy such a Logbuch in the canteen, for his personal use. To use the name Logbuch for a diary is not unusual in a Marine. Uwe -
Bundesrepublik Luftwaffe Wehrpass 1965
speedytop replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Hi Paul, he left the Army as Gefreiter. See picture 3 (Gefr.) and picture 6 (Gefreiter). Uwe -
Hi, I support, that "... the "50" in a wreath on the wall leads to the conclusion that it is his 50th birthday, and the Ehrenzeichen is for 25 years (2nd class) ...". There is no 50 in the upper arm, and he is in my opinion to young for it. Please notice, that a man can only have the Ehrenzeichen for 25 and for 40 years, but that the same man can not have the Sonderstufe for 50 years too. And a man, who had been decorated with the Sonderstufe for 50 years, can not have the Ehrenzeichen for 25 and for 40 years before. Uwe

Hi Odulf, OT to your Post Bundesmarine. Correct is in the Bundeswehr, since 1955, always Heer, Luftwaffe and Marine: For the Luftwaffe is also in use Bundesluftwaffe. For the Marine is correct Marine, Bundesmarine and since 1990 Deutsche Marine. But the Heer of the Bundeswehr was never the "Bundesheer", because that was and is the name of the Austrian land forces. DDR Group of East German Award Docs
speedytop replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Hi Jock, yes, SV is Strafvollzug, and on the document "Für vorbildliche Arbeit" you can see the location Thale and you can see in the signature the abbreviation StVE, that is Strafvollzugseinrichtung (prison). The Oberstleutnant d. SV Buttkus was the leader (Leiter) of the Strafvollzugseinrichtung Thale. See the ranks Organ Strafvollzug (SV): http://www.lbsr.cz/ddr/mdi/dvp_1.html Uwe -

Bundesrepublik 2 Bundeswehr Caps
speedytop replied to Leuchtturm's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Alex, it was written before, it is a cap for the Heeresflieger. Turn around the sweat band, and you can normally see the splints of the badge. Open them carefully, withdraw the badge and fasten a Heer badge. That is my advice. Uwe -
Bundesrepublik 2 Bundeswehr Caps
speedytop replied to Leuchtturm's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Hi, the metal Luftwaffen cap badge is definitely wrong on this cap. There was no change. On this grey (grau) cap it must be, correct with the 3 light grey (hellgrau) pipings (1 Deckelbiese und 2 Randbiesen) for the Heeresflieger, the Heeres cap badge. As you can see, the blue-grey (blaugrau) Luftwaffen cap has only 1 golden yellow (goldgelb) piping (Deckelbiese). Uwe -

Unidentified VOPO Headgear
speedytop replied to Alex K's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Hi Alex, green > privates and NCO's (Mannschaften bis einschliesslich Obermeister) silver > officers (Offiziere) gold > generals (Generale) Uwe -
Hi, it is a little bit difficult. If he had the complete general staff education/training (2 years), he had to change sometimes the colour on his uniform. Serving in a position with the addition "i.G.", e.g. Oberstleutnant i.G., he had to wear the crimson (karmesinroten) collar tabs and piping. Serving for example as a battalion commander (Oberstleutnant), he had to wear his "original" colour, here as Panzeraufklärer. But it can be, that an officer without the general staff training have to serve on a position (Planstelle) with the addition "i.G.". Then he have to wear the crimson colour too. Uwe

Hi ccj, here is nothing that could be called 57er, not the PlM and not the Oakleaves. 57er versions are identified TR decorations from the time period 1934 to 1945, in an officially changed design, and that means in a new form without NS symbols. A PlM has absolutely nothing to do with the TR period, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the § 6 (1) 2. and 3. in the german law from 1957 (Ordensgesetz), where is something written about the decorations with the changed design. Oakleaves must not be changed in the design, therefore it could also not be a 57er. Only these decorations can be called 57er: http://ordensmuseum.de/Ordensjournal/Ordensjournal16Jan0857er.pdf No PlM and no Oakleaves. Uwe

Hi, it is a badge in an honouring system in the "Deutsche Krieger-Fechtanstalt". With "Fechten" is here not meant fencing! "fechten" is an old German word for "betteln" > begging The members of the organization are begging for orphanages. The more donations they begged, the higher the award. There had been other organizations like this, e,g, the "Fechtanstalt des Deutschen Kriegerbundes". Your badge is of a higher rank, "Oberbundesfechtmeister". Uwe
