I am so glad your great-grandfather was in the Franco-Prussian War! Mine was born in 1833, so when I see posts now about "my great-grandfather's medals in WW2" I feel like Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossa waiting for a wake up call!

Thanks Rick, yes, my great-grandfather was born 13.7.1842, my grandfather 1.6.1886, and i feel like a dinosaur when i remember the stories i have heard from grandfather and grandmother !

Heinrich Hockenbeck became Rittmeister der Landwehr and retired in 1898. He further received

-Kriegsdenkm?nze 1870/71 for combattants (of cause)

-Landwehrdienstauszeichnung 1. Klasse

-Roter Adler-Orden 4. Klasse

-Kronen-Orden 3. Klasse

The last two he received as director of a Highschool in M?nster. He died 22.6.1905.

Greetings gentlemen,

I just got hold of my copy of this great CD, and must say I'm thrilled with it !

This wonderful list featuring the given names of the recipients (capital information !), I could at last make sense of the information I found re. a Hussar Lieutenant named v. Rothkirch u. Trach : there were two of them (both got the EK2), brothers Graf Dorotheus and Graf Friedrich Leopold :

Plus I got to learn that Friedrich Leopold acted as Ordonnanz-Offizier b. General-Kommando der 8.Armee-Korps - which I had absolutely no clue of !

Came across a wonderful "little" title on my last research trip to the big city: A complete register of the winners of the 1870 Iron Cross with first names and units

Some 1200 odd pages it contains the names of the winners from all contingents in all classes.

Thank you Jens, I've had a chance to see a group of orders and decorations belonged to members of the Anrep and Anrep-Elmpt family (they had high ranking officers serving in the Russian army in the late 18th Century and during the napoleonic wars; other members (but I'm not sure if descendants of female members, so with other surname), served in Germany and Imperial Austria. Among other pieces there is a EK2-1870, so I've asked for info and try to attribute that Iron Cross.
