Hello Nick,
Thank you! I am trying to trace Manchukuo awards to Central Americans 1936-1940. You already know, I'm sure, that three Central American nations, El Salvador (March 3, 1934), the Dominican Republic (March 17?, 1934) and Costa Rica (September 23, 1934), agreed to de jure relations with Manchukuo.
The Manchukuo Year Book includes notes of awards to foreigners but not names. I suspect that the Yearbook has accurate figures but do not have one from 1936 onwards.
I have been able to find reference to three Salvadorians, President General Maximiliano Hernández Martínez [Dragon Ray], Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Araujo [Order of the Auspicious Clouds or Pillars of State, whichever one, lst class] and the Salvadorean Consul General in Tokyo, León Siguenza. [Pillars of State 2nd class]. These awards reportedly made in 1938.
Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, President of the Dominican Republic supposedly received Gran cordón especial de la Orden de las Nubes Propicia [Order of the Auspicious Clouds 'special' grand cordon] in 1937 or 1938 and his Foreign Minister/Vice President, Manuel de Jesús Troncoso de la Concha, obtained a Pillars of State Grand Cordon at the same time. I do not know of any other Dominican awardees.
I have not found any record of Manchukuo decorations bestowed to Costa Rican President León Cortés Castro, [1936 to 1940] or his Foreign Ministers 1934–1936: Raúl Gurdián Rojas, 1936–1937: Manuel Francisco Jiménez Ortiz or 1937–1940: Tobías Zúñiga Montúfar. Costa Rica did not have a tradition of giving or receiving Orders so none may have been offered.
Also, in 1985, Bill Koonce mentioned that several Brazilians and a Peruvian received Manchukuo decorations for humanitarian work but I cannot find any verification.
Could you possibly help in verifying these awards or provide any additional information?
With sincere thanks, EJ Fischer

Hello Peter, Many THANKS for your prompt & kind reply. I have a chance to pick that 4 piece group up for $200 USD, delivered. Although it's not within my current collection focus, it does appear to be quite a nice little WW1 Trio group. IIRC, Any LSGC Medals when accompanied by a Trio would sell for decent money. For some reason, they appear to have stabilized somewhat in price ? I also wasn't sure if a group to an Royal Marine Band Musician would be deemed more valuable that some others ? Well, again I THANK YOU for your kind reply, Take care,
Best, Dom Pastore Jr. / dpast32@aol.com

My pleasure. I'm a retired teacher who can't resist instructing people! And lots of time on my hands. Much of which I spend in the world of the Great War, researching and teaching.
I haven't actually bought many medals or groups in a good long while, so I can't comment in detail on prices, but they do tend to be cyclical and reflect the general economy as well, as nobody really 'needs' a 2,nd, 3rd or 7th trio to the Bogshire LI.
I agree that the R Marines have an edge on the RN in terms of price. Also feel that an LSGC adds value to a group, as it indicates someone who was not just a 'hostilities only' type. So, it sounds as if you got a good group for a good price! I hope all your collecting endeavours go as well.
Happy 2019!
Peter

Does anybody know whether Bob had any children or relatives that are still alive and how I could contact them. From his posts on Heinrich Fuchs it seems that Bob's and my family are related. Therefore I would like to get in touch with his (Lembke) family in the US. Everybody's help is greatly appreciated! I wrote Bob a message but unfortunately he passed away last year.
Many thanks !
Ingo.

Hello Alan,
I hope you can help! I have an 1897 C of L Police jubilee medal to PC 404 W. SHEEN. I am trying to locate anything on his history with C of L police and hope you can assist. It's a little difficult to source info from Australia!
Kind regards, David.

Hi David,
Go on the ''London Metropolitan Archives'' site and give them all his City of London Police details, as you have listed above, asking if his personal file is available.
They will then tell you if the file has survived and they will sent you some forms which allows you to pay a small charge for them to go into the file and give you a break-down of the costs of supplying a copy of the file.
If he has a big file, it might be a bit costly so you might only want the best bits from the file.
I live in Scotland so I have to do the same and all communications with them is by 'e' mail and post so being in Australia will be no problem for them.
The files obviously contains lots of details you can't get anywhere else and are invaluable if you want to research this individual.
Also go on the ''Old Bailey trials'' site.... basically put in PC Sheen or Sheen and see what comes up around the period you think he was in the City of London Police.
If you have any problems just come back and I will help if I can
regards Alan.
Hi again,
The 'e' mail address for the enquiry to the London Metropolitan Archives is

Hello Augustin,
Do you know what the correct ribbon colors are for the Westphalian Silver Bravery/Good Conduct medal are? Thank you.

Hello. I have found you via an auction web site bid or buy. You sold an original picture back a few years ago of the Malaya sas and I was enquiring who you sold it to? My grandad was in the picture and I am keen to trace.

I am looking to reunite the Order of the Red Star (3800506) of Ефим Михайлович Литовщик with his other items. Also looking for the 1985 Jubilee version of the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class with serial number 3689313.

Hi Dave chanced upon this and doing a little search found that you were and might still be interested in him... Read the name on the back, please.

Hi, Thanks for that.
Now I have to reevaluate all the Theophiles. The FR 90 Stammliste listed its Theophile as Friedrich, but that looks like a "90" on the shoulder boards. Also, the 1915 Frankfurt Adressbuch lists an architect in Isenburg as "Max", and the 1911 rank list of reserve and Landwehr officers says the FR 90 officer was an architect in Isenburg. So the Stammliste got it wrong. He received the MMV1 as well as the MMV2.

Hi Chris,
Do you mind saying which light box you purchased? Your pictures turned out well and I assume you are happy with it. I've researched these in the past, but have yet to pull the trigger.
Thanks,

Hello Odin,
Is the reprinted book 'The Metropolitan Police, The Men and Their Medals' still available? If so I would like to purchase one!
Kind regards

Hello David
The book is still available but I see you live in Australia - I have just checked the cost of postage and other than sea mail which takes ages, the cost is around £19 for untracked postage as it is a heavy book and weighs over 1.7 kg when packed. This almost doubles the price of the book which is now £22. Also I'm not sure if they would hit you with customs duty as well. By comparison the cost to send it second class within the UK is just £3.
Because the postage for overseas mail has gone up so much I haven't sold any abroad for several years.
I have tried to convert it to an e-book but failed I'm afraid. I do have it in pdf format which I can e-mail out but I am a bit wary of doing that as it is possible to start a print run from that. I have sent one copy to Canada on the understanding it was for the personal use of the recipient only.
It is annoying as I have about sixty copies of the book and most of the interest I seem to get now comes from abroad!
Given the above do you have any thoughts on what you want to do
Regards
J Kemp

As a follow up, because of the weight and shipping issue.......I would be very happy with just a door and not an entire call box. I have owned roughly 50-60 boxes over the past 25 years, and this would be one of the most unique. As a result, I would pay some serious dollars for a door (with hinges preferred). Thanks for your patience.
